Marjorie Book brings people with and without disabilities together for continuing education classes and activities such as theater, service projects and tabletop role playing. Anyone is welcome to join. We are committed to making the Marjorie Book experience accessible to anyone who is interested, and we may be able to help with transportation if that is a barrier to participating. Please feel free to visit one time if you just want to stop by and learn more about us.
Need transportation to a Marjorie Book event? Please contact us as we may be able to help. We do not turn anyone away based on a lack of transportation. We will figure out the transportation somehow.

Video Screening – The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. at UC Teachers Dyer Complex (2602 Clifton Avenue) in Room 511.
This is a newer activity for Marjorie Book. We have been gathering at UC to watch films that relate to our Local Writers classes, Local Poets classes, and theatrical plays. On October 7, we will watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013 film, rated PG) based on the works of Columbus area writer, James Thurber.
This video screening is free to attend. If there is no parking available on Clifton Avenue, you may use the USquare Parking Garage, at 170 W. McMillan Street.
Trip to the Bob Ross House in Muncie, Indiana: Sunday, October 11. All Day. We will make a one-day trip to Muncie, Indiana to see the studio where Bob Ross broadcast his PBS show in the 1980s. Bob Ross was an artist whose show, The Joy of Painting, made painting more accessible for audiences around the world. The Bob Ross House is part of the Minnetrista historical complex (see Minnetrista for more details). We will get lunch and dinner that day. There is no cost for the trip, but we would like to know in advance if you are joining us.
Tabletop Roleplaying – Call of Cthulhu: Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. at UC Teachers Dyer Complex (2602 Clifton Avenue) in Room 511.
We are continuing our brand-new role-playing game. Our group of 6-12 participants play Call of Cthulhu on a semi-monthly basis. Call of Cthulhu is an interactive role-playing game similar to Dungeons and Dragons. We always welcome new players and ask that you try to attend somewhat regularly for at least 6 months, if you are joining. No previous experience is required but bring your imagination as we breathe life into fictional characters living in this early 20th century world.
Service Project – Mill Creek Trail Cleanup: Sunday, October 25 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Meet at Caldwell Sports Complex (316 W. North Bend Road in Carthage).
The Mill Creek Trail is a multi-use walking and biking trail that runs in segments from Carthage to Northside. We will use reacher/grabber tools to pick up litter along the trail and prevent it from polluting the Mill Creek, Cincinnati’s urban stream that stretches from Butler County to the Ohio River. We may also pull invasive species.
We don’t walk especially far during this service project, and so the activity level should be accessible to all. We do bring a few wheelchairs with us, just in case they are needed.
We’ll work rain or shine and meet in the parking lot of the Caldwell Sports Complex. Please dress for the weather. Marjorie Book will have ponchos available in case it rains. There is a portable toilet at this location, but only in the summer and fall and may not be available at this time.
Local Writers Class: Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m., at UC Teachers Dyer Complex (2602 Clifton Avenue) in Room 511.
Last session, we began reading selections from Ohio writers, James Thurber and Erma Bombeck, and we will continue to investigate the differences in style between these two writers. This class is open to people of all reading levels (from no reading interest/ability at all to super prolific readers). We will partner up during the class and have small group discussions about what we see happening in the writing.

Writing Workshop: Friday, October 30 at 7:15 p.m. at UC Teachers Dyer Complex (2602 Clifton Avenue) in Room 511.
This workshop is a follow up to our ongoing Local Writers and Local Poets classes. We will spend about 90 minutes developing your pieces of writing that you have already begun in class or at home. This is a great way to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard and revise and enhance a story that you have started previously in our workshops. After having finished memoir writing, we are slowly working on developing our second piece of writing, which is focused on worldbuiding. Anyone is welcome – just know that this is primarily a workshop to get writing time (and not a class on writing).
We need volunteers to assist some of our writers during the Writing Workshop. Please let us know if you could support one of our writers during this evening.
